Hotel and Beach

Cliff-top view from Hartlan QuayThe main building has been a hotel since 1886 with its original stables now converted into The Wreckers Retreat Bar. Above the stables were the old corn and hay lofts, now  ensuite bedrooms!

Resident Managers: Chris and Jill Johns are the third generation of the Johns family, who, for the last 40 years have managed the hotel. Chris and Jill and their friendly, helpful staff will help you with all your needs and make sure that your stay is relaxing and happy. The friendly atmosphere of this family run business encourages guests to return year after year.

The hotel is open throughout the year, except Christmas, and offers a warm  welcome at any time. Hearty English breakfasts of locally sourced ingredients.  The bedrooms are comfortable and bathrooms have piping hot water – our new boiler has been installed for 2010. There is a peaceful Residents Lounge to contemplate the day ahead and a public bar to enjoy a drink and a meal.

Families are very welcome and we will do our best to help you with anything you require to make your stay more comfortable.  The Hotel has passed The Stepping Stones Hotel Inspection scheme.

Beach

We are lucky enough to have a fantanstic beach here at Hartland Quay, which is much loved by families and bathers alike.  We have a strict rule that no dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, to keep it as family friendly as possible.  Through much of the summer, many hours can be passed making sandcastles, swimming or crabbing in the rock pools.  There is reasonable access to the beach, suitable for push chairs, but a little too steep for wheelchairs.
